Lagardère Travel Retail Iceland to open five new Food and Beverage outlets at Keflavík Airport
Five new restaurants will be added to Keflavík Airport's restaurant flora this spring when Lagardère Travel Retail Iceland will open well-known and new restaurants in two areas inside the airport. Three of them will open in the airport's main building and two in the south building. At all the restaurants, a lot of effort will be put into fast service, and it will be possible to both eat at the restaurants and take the meals with you in environmentally friendly packaging.
Three restaurants will be built in the airport's main building in a new dining area to the east, where a warm, cozy and relaxed experience will be paramount. These brands are Yuzu, La Trattoria and Zócalo.
The design of the area is done by HAF Studio, which has created a holistic space reminiscent of an outdoor area and atmosphere at its best in the centre of Reykjavík. To give the space a true street atmosphere, Icelandic artists will be hired every year to design a new graffiti illustration in the area. There will also be an opportunity for artistic kids to draw their own artwork on a digital graffiti wall to shorten the wait at the court.
There will be a great variety in food and drinks and the availability will differ between the three restaurants to meet the needs and wishes of as many guests as possible. The burger place Yuzu is well known among foodies in Iceland and the place has won many awards for its burgers. Yuzu will serve the most popular dishes from their menu, as well as a breakfast that is specially developed for their location at the airport. The menu at Yuzu is influenced by oriental cuisine and developed by star chef Haukur Már Hauksson (Haukur chef), who is also one of the owners of the brand.
La Trattoria is an Icelandic restaurant that offers Italian dishes, where the emphasis is on high quality ingredients and simplicity. The place first opened in the food court Hafnartorg and has been very popular ever since. Hrefna Sætran, one of Iceland’s best-known chefs, and restaurateur Ágúst Reynisson are responsible for the menu at La Trattoria. A special addition to the new airport menu will be delicious pizzas for guests.
Zócalo is a Mexican fast-food chain owned by Einar Arnar Einarsson, one of the founders of Serrano in Iceland. The first Zócalo location was opened in Sweden in 2015, but today there are sixteen in three countries. At Zócalo, we will offer fresh and healthy Mexican food that suits different needs at all times of the day.
The catering on the 1st floor of the airport's south building is tailored to foreign connecting and departing passengers, most of whom are on their way to the United States or Great Britain. The selection reflects their needs, and the focus is on simple food that passengers are familiar with, but with an Icelandic twist in ingredients and design. A new Icelandic restaurant, Keflavík Diner, and the well-known restaurant Sbarro, are opening there. Keflavík Diner takes its inspiration from the history of the area and has an allusion to the time when the American army was in Keflavík in the years 1951-2006. A varied menu with an emphasis on American cuisine mixed with Icelandic dishes will be available.
Isavia opened tenders for these two areas last spring. Two parties met the qualification requirements of the tender and submitted valid offers. The bid evaluation process included, among other things, including evaluating restaurant offerings, restaurant freshness, pricing, and service, as well as the design of the locations and sustainability. Lagardère Travel Retail turned out to be the most competitive in the tender.
